The search for the energy of the future – an interactive research project on board the 'Sonne' research ship
If the German research project SUGAR is successful, it would kill two birds with one stone. First, it would provide a new source of energy in the form of methane hydrate, which lies under the ocean floor in great quantities. Second, it would contribute to climate protection by storing carbon dioxide in the cavities created while extracting methane hydrate. The web documentary 'The search for the energy of the future' accompanies scientists on board the German research ship the 'Sonne' while they conduct research off the coast of New Zealand in areas of the Pacific where methane hydrate is present and methane gas seeps into the sea.
